AUTOMATIC DENTAL (CHART) IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM (ADIS)

The FBI has over 40,000 UNIDENTIFIED FOUND PERSON REPORTS, and over 80,000 MISSING PERSONS REPORTS submitted by Coroners/Medical Examiners and Law Enforcement.
Most of these records contain DENTAL CHARTS in PDF (Portable Document Format) files.
They are currently used to try to establish the identity of a candidate UNIDENTIFIED FOUND PERSON AND a candidate MISSING PERSON.
MISSING PERSON LINK has created an AUTOMATIC DENTAL (CHART) IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM on a par with CODIS (Used to match DNA), and AFIS (Used to match Fingerprints).
ADIS reads DENTAL CHARTS from a GLOBAL DATABASE maintained by MISSING PERSON LINK and returns 'matches' from submitted qualified records.
MISSING PERSON LINK has supplied a computer program to the FBI (NCIC), which reads both MISSING PERSON and UNIDENTIFIED FOUND PERSON reports from their databases, extracting DENTAL CODES, GENDER, DATE, ADULT OR CHILD and CASE NUMBER information, and sending it (via the Internet) to the GLOBAL database.
This program can read and process (add and search) all qualifying records in under 7 days (running continuously - unattended)
If the record is MATCHED, the CASE NUMBER will be returned for supply to the investigating agency.
A MATCH is guaranteed if the matching MISSING PERSON and UNIDENTIFIED FOUND PERSON report contain matching*** DENTAL CODES (entered correctly) and the report is qualified by DATE, GENDER, ADULT/OR CHILD information.
***The ADIS will allow rational changes (i.e. Normal (Virgin) Tooth in MISSING PERSON recorded as EXTRACTED in UNIDENTIFIED PERSON.) but will reject irrational changes (i.e. EXTRACTED tooth in MISSING PERSON recorded as Normal (Virgin) in UNIDENTIFIED PERSON.
ADIS was instrumental in matching dental charts of MIA servicemen from the Battle of TARAWA, November 1943, and remains buried as UNKNOWNS at the Punchbowl in Hawaii.
