AUTOMATIC DENTAL (CHART) IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM (ADIS) USING DENTAL TREATMENT SIGNIFICANCE RANKING (DTSR)

Missing Person Link has developed a system of RANKING post mortem and ante mortem dental charts.
DTSR is a score which represents the significance of each post mortem chart against each antemortem chart calculated against the total pool (all qualifying charts).
This ranking takes into account primary and secondary coding.
DTSR was instrumental in matching dental charts of 27 MIA servicemen from the Battle of TARAWA, November 1943, and remains buried as UNKNOWNS at the The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) in Hawaii.
A 'PROOF OF CONCEPT' for DTSR is demonstrated here (a program which searches a database of 500,000 randomly created dental chart records).

PUBLISHED STATISTICS:
UNIDENTIFIED FOUND PERSONS (USA) - BEFORE 2014.

NAMUS lists 10,933 Unidentified Found Persons up to and including 2013.
FBI (NCIC) lists 8,045 Unidentified Found Persons as of December 31st, 2013.
MISSING PERSONS (USA) - BEFORE 2014.
NAMUS lists 14,307 Missing Persons up to and including 2013.
FBI (NCIC) lists 84,136 Missing persons up to December 31st, 2013.
Missing Person statistics are always inflated, because the return, (or known whereabouts) of the subject are not always reported to law enforcement in order for the report to be cancelled.
Unidentified Found Person statistics are more reliable as the reporting Medical Examiners/Coroners will report any identifications.
It is difficult to explain the difference between statistics provided by NAMUS and the FBI (NCIC).

In 'cold cases', the loved one of a Missing Person can search NAMUS Unidentified Found Persons by entering gender, race, age, height, weight, date last seen, location etc.
This search will return all cases of Unidentified Found Persons conforming to the information they provided. Included in the returns will be cases where gender, race, age, height, weight are Uncertain or Unknown. This can be traumatic, because the majority of returns will be of skeletonized, putrified, decomposed or partial remains.
However, most of these returned remains will contain dental charts (which will not be available/visible in the returns).
Typically, over 70% of these dental charts will have post mortem missing teeth (fallen out after death).
Therefor only remaining teeth can be compared with the teeth contained in the Missing Person's dental chart.
Missing Person Link's dental chart search algorithms can easily identify positive matches in these circumstances. They can aslo make allowances for rational changes in dentition (subsequent treatments).
Occasionally the returns contain facial reconstruction or forensic drawings from the skull of the deceased. Using our cranial/facial algorythms we can include or exclude the record based on a photograph of the Missing Person, and (if available) a facial reconstruction or forensic drawing of the deceased.
USA/MEXICO BORDER CROSSINGS (Prior to 2014) (migrants)
States bordering on Mexico, Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas which have large areas of desert have a large number of Unidentified Found Persons whose remains are skeletonized in their morgues.
Arizona has 737 found within 200km of the border, California has 212, Texas has 22 and New Mexico 17. Most of these remains belong to migrants who have illegally crossed the border seeking a new life in America and have persished in the harsh desert environment.
These migrants could have originated from Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti, El Salvador, Guatemala.. the list goes on.
The loved ones of these migrants have very little resources or the ability to make a Missing Person Report in the US.
Such a report would include a physical description, dental records and DNA.
Missing Person Link has provided loved ones the ability to make a Missing Person Report for migrants missing prior to 2014, (in Spanish) and is seeking assistance in reaching these loved ones.
